The Kuhl Home Leather Sofa Guide: Options & Care Instructions

The Kuhl Home Leather Sofa Guide Options & Care Instructions

We get it – sofa shopping is far from easy. There are many factors to consider, such as the size, shape and material of your chosen design. Out of these, choosing the material tends to be trickiest. Unlike size and shape, it isn’t constricted by the space you have. Instead, the best material for you often depends on your budget and lifestyle. The common dilemma is this: Which is right for me – a leather sofa, or a fabric sofa?

If you find yourself confused, allow us to be of assistance! Below, we have a list of pros and cons for leather sofas. For fabric sofas, please click here (to be edited).

The Kuhl Home Leather Sofa Guide Options & Care Instructions

Pros

  • Durable: Leather sofas are known for their durability. Not only does it look good for a long time, it also wears well. Some leather sofas are also seen as an investment and can be resold at a high price.
  • Luxurious: Leather offers a unique feel beneath your fingers and often promotes a sense of luxury.
  • Maintenance: Whether a leather sofa is easier to maintain compared to a fabric sofa depends on your lifestyle. This material is not resistant to scratching by pets and the damage is easily seen. However, assuming that the leather has been treated, it is both water and stain resistant. Finally, leather doesn’t absorb smells as fast as fabrics do.
  • Hypoallergenic: Leather sofas do not harbour allergens (e.g. dust mites) as easily as fabric sofas do. Hence allergy sufferers will do better with this material.

Cons

  • Price: The cost of a leather sofa is almost always significantly higher than a fabric sofa of the same design.
  • Limited Types & Colours: For most sofa brands, the range of type and colour for their fabric sofas is always larger than their leather counterparts.
  • Not Child-Friendly: If your little one likes to jump from seat to seat, then go for the fabic option instead. Leather does not take well to constant bouncing and will become easily damaged.
  • Not Cooling: Fabric sofas feel cooler to the touch compared to leather sofas. For those living in sunny Singapore, it won’t be surprising if this becomes a deciding factor when choosing the material of their sofa.

If your heart is still set on a leather sofa, then scroll on! At Kuhl Home, we only offer premium, quality leather.

Light fastness (the degree to which a dye resists fading due to constant light exposure) = 4-5

Quattro leather originates from Germany. It is tanned without the use of chrome, which is a toxic chemical that heavily damages the environment. It is made in accordance to the highest European standards and can be traced to the cattle’s area of origin.

Austin

Light fastness = 3

Austin is aniline nubuck leather. In the leather furniture industry, aniline dyes can only be used on the highest quality of leathers. This is because any blemishes already present on the leather will still be visible after the dying process. The surface of Austin is soft, smooth and most importantly, breathable. This class of leather originates from Slovakia.

Design Recommendations

While all our sofas look particularly sharp in leather, our top recommendations are:

  1. Hannah Sofa – A Hannah in leather offers a clash of masculine and feminine elements. But still, it works!
  2. Mara Sofa – Leather complements the padded sides of the Mara’s extremely well… and bonus! The Mara transforms into a day bed with a single pull.
  3. Juul 301 – A slim base, plump cushions and a classic look – what more can you ask for?
